From a sports betting rant that had George Kamel looking like a completely different person to a guy who used Hinge as a mechanism to sell insurance, this episode has a little bit of everything! In this episode, we react to some of the most entertaining personal finance clips on the internet, while introducing a fun new segment where we try a viral snack we reacted to in episodes past. From buying a house you cannot afford, taking a vacation while $23,000 in debt, dreaming of a five-bedroom lakefront home on a $2,000-a-month budget, and a viral clip that proves small brain and galaxy brain sometimes arrive at the same conclusion, we break it all down while sharing what smarter money management actually looks like (Halloween costumes and all). If you’re trying to build wealth, improve your investing strategy, save more money, understand home affordability, or reach financial independence without making money unnecessarily complicated, these funny financial clips contain some surprisingly valuable lessons for everyone to enjoy.

George’s Sports Betting Rant (0:00)
Brian: Actually hilarious videos. Last time we did a hilarious video, they set a trap for us. The team laid the pine straw on the ground and we fell right in. Let’s see if we do it again today.
Bo: I am so excited, Brian, to see what they’ve put together for us today.
Clip #1: George’s Sports Betting Rant (0:15)
[Clip] I don’t know who needs to hear this, but you on freaking market instead of just building wealth the right way, investing in good stocks, mutual funds, and index funds. It’s not investing. It’s glorified gambling.
Bo: Okay. Somebody check George’s heart rate.
Brian: I really wish that Whitney would have been off to the side with her phone filming George actually doing this. Could you imagine how hilarious it would have been to see him recording this video? George is a happy-go-lucky fun type of guy. And that guy right there — Violent George. I mean, that’s almost like Jack Nicholson in The Shining. Here’s Georgie. George, you look a little unhinged.
Bo: I think that George’s anger is well placed because we see so many people saying, “Hey, just so you know, sports betting now is not gambling anymore. It’s investing. Arbitrage plays, Polymarket.” No, those are still speculative. They’re still gambling. They are not investing. Those two are not equal. And when people, especially young people today, try to justify those as being the same thing, they are just flat out wrong.
Brian: I do get excited though because we went through a whole season where we were doing props on about every show we recorded. Happy Halloween. Oh boy. George is only one degree of separation from props. So maybe it’s going to make a comeback and we can pull out the Batman and Robin, we can pull out the accountant hats, we can pull out the Mario costumes. I mean, when I was a dragon slayer — that would be hilarious. Jon Snow. No. Okay, never mind.
Clip #2: Should Seniors Really Get Discounts? (2:02)
[Clip] Why are we giving seniors discounts? They have all the money. I went to a Golden Corral with my mom and dad. They’re 65 plus. They got 20% off. These people have seven investment properties. They don’t need that. They’re loaded. And kids eat for free. See, that makes sense to me. You were just born. You don’t have any money. You don’t eat a lot anyway. I get that. But then all of a sudden you turn 12 and you’re paying full price. Where’s the justice in that? It should taper off. Middle age should have the discounts and it gets lower and lower until you turn 65 and you pay full price. You’re in the endgame now. You should have figured out money by now.
Brian: See, I disagree. I don’t think it should be middle age gets the discounts. I think it should be the young folks. I think the folks just coming out instead of getting the senior citizen discount, you ought to get like the Gen Z discount. I keep trying to convince my family every time we’re down in Florida, we drive right past a Golden Corral on the way to the parks and I’m like, we could do a breakfast buffet and it would crush, and I can’t get anybody to sign up.
Bo: You know, this is the problem. You grow up in my household — every birthday was at Ryan’s or Golden Corral — and somehow when you get into adulthood your family just doesn’t have the same effect. I wonder if that’s a nostalgia thing because I remember being a little kid thinking Chuck-E-Cheese would have been the greatest thing in the world. But as an adult, the one time I went to Chuck-E-Cheese as an adult, it was not the same as I remembered. I wonder if Golden Corral is the same for you.
Brian: When you and I lived in Georgia together, how many all-you-can-eat buffets did we crush?
Bo: A lot. A whole lot. But there was that Asian buffet that we used to go to that had all the expired Little Debbie cakes that they would set up and make a little pyramid out of them. So don’t sleep on the all-you-can-eat buffets.
Hot Cheetos and Lime Taste Test (3:46)
Rebie: Hold up. I have something for you to react to. Are you ready? The last time we did this hilarious react video, you guys got really held up on this guy side hustling. He was selling snacks out of his backpack and at one point he was pouring something into a bag of spicy hot Cheetos. Were there people pouring Mountain Dew or some sort of drink into the Cheetos? Did you see that?
Brian: I saw that, but I think the top might have been on there.
Bo: So today the content team has decided that we are going to react to limes in spicy hot Cheetos.
Brian: I saw somebody in the comments said this was going to change my life.
Bo: I don’t even like hot Cheetos without lime juice. How much? Look at Tom Cruise shaking it up right here. Cocktail style.
Brian: It’s not a cocktail reference. Oh yeah, it was Cocktail. I have hair. This is Tom Cruise looking at my hair going, “Yeah, he’s got it too.” Our team doesn’t get that reference. Our audience does.
Bo: Okay. How much? I’m trying to base it off the memory. Dealer’s choice — you get to decide how much. Did you put so much on the desk? Oh, are we shaking it up? What are you going to wipe your hand on? You don’t have a napkin.
Brian: Oh god, I forgot about the Cheeto dust. Okay, we’re good. We’re good. Are we doing this together?
Rebie: Come on. Let’s make something happen here. All right. I’m going to take — when you guys do, we’ll all do it together. You got some too?
Brian: Yes. You were really hung up on this. Are you a cheater? Do you like red hots? My family loves this stuff, by the way.
Rebie: Debatable. Okay. Ready? I’m going to taste it. Flaming hot.
Brian: Oh, I’m not hating that. By the way, I do not need this. If you saw my cholesterol. Oh, I’m going to have the whole thing. You were buying out of a backpack.
Bo: I feel like we’re running an ASMR show now. This is a very mid snack. I agree.
Brian: Why are you so bougie? I know how poor you were growing up and so you don’t get to act like this is mid.
Bo: Look, give me an oatmeal cream pie. Give me a Swiss cake roll. Give me one of those. But this is not doing it for me.
Brian: Yeah. Now, this is going to hurt me in a little bit, but I’m enjoying it right now. You’re going to eat the whole thing, aren’t you? It’s pretty good. I will say I’m over here — we might make a run for Doritos. Like, I love some Doritos. You take me to the beach, we go to the grocery store, I’m buying a bag of Doritos.
Bo: I might consider this now. There’s a bunch of lime juice in here. Did I not put enough lime juice on mine? You’ve got to shake it up too.
Brian: I’m not doing that part. I’m not licking my palms on camera. I washed my hands at some point. I felt like Rebie came running through the room like she was the Kool-Aid Man.
Rebie: One to ten. What would you rate this snack?
Brian: I’m going to give this a solid — oh, come on — seven.
Bo: Four.
Bo: I was five. If I had this at the house and it was readily available, I’d probably look for another snack.
Brian: Yeah, I ate most of mine. Hang on, I went down the breathe hole.
Bo: Remember that time you dumped lime juice all over the desk when you were trying to put it inside your Cheetos?
Brian: I actually thought that was going to be genius, like shaking up a salad. It was not genius. Nobody ever accused me of being a genius. I just put geniuses around me.
Sponsor: Monarch Money (7:17)
Brian: Bo, back in high school when Mr. Mario told me that saving $100 a month could turn me into a millionaire one day, that moment literally changed my money story forever. The numbers showed me what was truly possible.
Bo: It’s funny how motivating numbers can be to Financial Mutants, which I think is why our audience will appreciate Monarch. I’ve really enjoyed being able to have one dashboard that shows all my accounts, all my investments, all my spending, all my savings, all in one place. I love how Monarch lets me see my entire financial picture and how it’s changing over time. And for our fellow financial nerds, you can even use Monarch’s investment view to compare your portfolio performance to the S&P 500. Plus, the AI weekly recap can flag things like changes in your spending and net worth, so you might notice trends you wouldn’t have thought to even look for. Even if you’re good with money, it’s smart to pay attention and keep optimizing. There’s always another milestone ahead in your money story.
Brian: That’s right. Write your own money story with Monarch. Use code moneyguy at monarch.com to get your first year of Monarch Core half off at just $50. That’s 50% off your first year at monarch.com with code moneyguy.
Clip #3: Rob a Bank vs. Take Out a Loan? (8:24)
[Clip] If you take out a loan from a bank, you’re going to be paying it back for 30 years. If you rob the bank, they’re going to release you in 10. Do with that information what you will. If you need more financial advice, hit that follow button.
[Clip] Nah, you’re going to be locked up. But I have a plan to keep the money. I did not tell y’all to do that. I told y’all the numbers behind it. What you did with that information was your business. You cannot take financial advice from somebody that’s struggling. That’s the truth right there. You cannot take money advice, financial advice from people who are struggling. It’s a pyramid scheme. All of it.
Brian: Hey, I don’t have anything to add. Right now after eating those Cheetos, them crackers in the background are looking pretty good. Put some peanut butter on there. Got me through college.
Clip #4: S&P 500 Investing vs. Overcomplicating It (9:14)
[Clip] I don’t know much about investing. I just put my money in the S&P 500. I don’t care about investing, so I hired a financial advisor. You need to study the market cycles and be constantly buying and selling individual stocks in order to get an optimum return. It is impossible to predict the future, and I am humble enough to know that I’m unable to do it. Therefore, I put my money in the S&P 500.
Bo: You see, it’s funny because your small brain and galaxy brain arrived at the same conclusion.
Brian: What was the middle brain that got the financial advisor? Normal brain. This is like a Saturday Night Live skit. Okay, tell me more. People watch this video but we all kind of internally go, that wasn’t as hilarious as I thought it should be.
Bo: No, but it is a great point. I think a lot of people
Brian: -and I think I might have messed up the entire recording day with me downing those Cheetos-
Bo: I think a lot of people are under the impression that the more intelligent they get, the more knowledge they gain, the more sophisticated their investment strategy has to be. They’ve got to go figure out what stocks to do, start doing covered calls, start doing all this complicated stuff. When in reality, we think it is a futile exercise to go out there and try to beat the market. A much better strategy is to just be the market. Just go buy the S&P 500, go buy low-cost index funds, and don’t overcomplicate it. Do the easy thing and you’ll be amazed at how much wealth you can build.
Brian: Don’t try to beat the market, just be the market — from the galaxy brain himself.
Clip #5: Using a Hinge Date to Sell Insurance (10:42)
[Clip] I’m actually a little bit nervous right now. I matched with someone named Lucy on Hinge and this is our first Hinge date. But honestly, I have no intention of doing anything but selling her insurance. So here’s the game plan. When she first walks in, I’m going to plant this seed, make a comment about insurance, then do some small talk. Then we sit down to eat. I’m going in for the kill.
Brian: She’s here. This is going to be awkward.
[Clip] Lucy. Hey. Yeah. How are you doing?
[Clip] Good. How are you?
[Clip] Good. So my insurance went up by like 20%. It sucks. Are you hungry though?
[Clip] Yeah. Let’s get some food. Who are you with for your insurance?
[Clip] I am with my parents though.
[Clip] Oh, you’re on your parents’ plan? You’re not even the decision maker. You’re 26.
[Clip] I guess not.
[Clip] Well, honestly, this will probably be our last date. Let’s enjoy though. Okay.
Brian: What? What? Guys, what are we doing here? I mean, that was awkward. That wasn’t hilarious.
Bo: I feel like we just picked on somebody who might be struggling with social- no, no, no. He was trying to sell her insurance. Did you hear what he was saying or were you just watching the video?
Brian: Yeah. No, he I thought that was his-
Bo: No, no, no. He connected with her on Hinge so that when she got there he could ask her who her insurance is with. So he could sell her insurance. This is a ploy for him to sell insurance. He was using Hinge as a mechanism to get people in and have a captive audience to sell insurance.
Brian: I’m sure that breaks their terms of service.
Bo: Did you really miss the whole thing? Did you just think this was like a date gone bad?
Brian: Well, yeah. First of all, I couldn’t get over the fact that he was taking her on the first date to Chipotle.
Bo: What’s wrong with Chipotle for the first date?
Brian: I don’t know. I mean, when I was – now look, I’ve been married 28 years, but when I dated, the first date, you set the hook by taking them someplace nice.
Bo: No, the first date it’s got to be laidback, super casual, not too much. You got to ease into it.
Brian: You’ve got to set the hook. No, first date, you don’t go all the way. You just put a hook out there with no bait on it.
Bo: It’s got to be comfortable.
Brian: There’s a reason I’ve been married 28 years. I set that hook deep. That came off a little weird. That’s weird. Sorry, honey.
Clip #6: How Did You Afford That House? (13:08)
[Clip] Congratulations on your new house. How did you — what is your husband — was it going well for him? What are you guys doing these days? Did you buy in 2017 when interest rates were — did you get land that was previously in your parents? They’re — they’re doing good. Your parents are — they’re supportive. They’re around. They’re helpful. They’re excited. How are your grandparents doing? And is everyone still alive and well? Is it like a trust or like I trust that we have funds. How did you afford to buy a house is what I’m asking.
Bo: It’s so true. If you are someone who’s able to get on the homeownership side of things, you’ve accomplished something that a lot of people in this country right now have not been able to do. How did you come up with the down payment? How did you find a house that you could afford? How did you figure out what the interest rate was? How are you making the monthly payment? It is a hard, hard thing to do, but it’s not impossible. That’s why if you go to moneyguy.com/resources, we have an entire home buying calculator, home buying checklist, and ways to help you do it the right way so that you can be the person that people are asking, “How’d you do it? What was the secret? What was the trick?”
Brian: Well, I mean, the math ain’t math on housing in a lot of ways because not only are interest rates sky-high, but then we had this huge run-up. Now all through my social media feed is all about how horrible the housing market is. But she ain’t wrong. All through my life, when I see things, I’m like, is that debt? Is that family? And that’s why — here’s the thing. Comparison really is the thief of joy. Don’t try to pace yourself with anyone. I’d rather you just understand how money works and live your best life. And one of the greatest things you can do is exactly what Bo said. If you go to moneyguy.com/resources, look at our home buying checklist. The first home you only have to put down as little as 3%. Yes, you might have PMI, but you can always get that to wash itself away in a few years after you’ve built up some equity. I’m just trying to get you on the homeownership train if it makes sense.
Clip #7: Have You Heard of a “Budget”? (15:13)
[Clip] Hey, have you guys heard of this word before? Budget. What is it?
[Clip] Forget budget. Budget? New Orleans dish. That’s good.
Brian: That’s actually pretty good. That is certifiably hilarious. I think a lot of people the word budget is a foreign word.
Bo: It’s not something they’re used to. They don’t recognize how to understand how to live below their means, how to save a little bit of today for tomorrow. Because if you can do that, if you can exercise discipline to create margin in your life and apply that over time, you can build wealth. But for most people, it has to start with something as simple as making and following a budget.
Brian: I kept waiting to see our wives somewhere in that scene. Didn’t you feel like that was taken down the street in Williamson County? I kept waiting to see our wives somewhere in that scene. Sorry, honey. Happy Halloween.
Money Guy’s Wildest Halloween Costumes (16:11)
[Clip] From the Money Guy Show. Got the hat looking tight. Frank Scott. Six financial decisions your future self will regret. Oh yeah. If you’re listening to this podcast, you are missing out. My Mario costume’s completely falling apart. I have told Bo that he should blow this picture up and put it over his bed.
Bo: What?
Brian: Maybe instead of the CPA life tattoo that I have across my belly, I could have done the biker look. You just never know.
Bo: Not Robin.
Brian: You — it looks great. But by the way, I just made a reference to all this earlier so I think the team’s trying to tell us something.
Bo: You know what? It’s wonderful to get to look back at all the lessons over life and time that we’ve learned. And we’ve learned costumes are maybe just not our thing.
Brian: You know, maybe I missed my calling. I will say I went to a Halloween party back in Georgia — we went to an annual Halloween party and one year I dressed as a biker with the fake sleeves and everything. You wouldn’t believe how many people came up. It was kind of uncomfortable. I think I missed my calling.
Bo: You’re at the age and level of success where I think a sleeve is probably in the cards.
Brian: No. No, no, no. What would I put on me? Bunch of calculators, pin keys, Disney stuff. That’s what I need. A sleeve full of Disney tattoos.
Bo: Dude, that’d be so hard. Oh, that’d be so hard.
Brian: We’ll put a flaming Cheeto on my bicep or something. Obviously, that’s what we should do. I love what this shows is — we’ve been doing this, Brian, for 20 years now. We’ve gone through a lot of seasons. I think I can find that dragon.
Bo: By the way, a lot of things have changed, but what has not changed is that sound financial advice is still sound. The things that we were saying 20 years ago are the same things that we are saying today. If you can master the three ingredients of wealth creation, if you can sacrifice a little bit of today for tomorrow, you too — no matter where you’re at, where you’re starting from, or what your backstory is — have the ability to build wealth.
Outro (18:19)
Brian: Well done, content team. Not even willing to say that was absolutely hilarious. I’m just curious what in the world are the editors going to do with that much chaos. I can’t wait to see. Guys, there is a better way to do money. Go check it out. Moneyguy.com/resources will load you up with free stuff. I’m your host Brian, joined by Mr. Bo. For all of us here, Money Guy, out.
